What are the Main Types of Fireplaces?
The main types of fireplaces include:
- Wood-burning Fireplaces –Wood-burning fireplaces are the traditional type of fireplace that uses natural wood for heat.
- Gas Fireplaces – Gas fireplaces supply a constant heat source without sparks or fumes of burning wood.
- Pellet Stoves –Pellet stoves burn pellets and provide the same visual benefits as a wood-burning fireplace while conserving energy.
- Outdoor Fireplaces – Outdoor fireplaces enhance the quality of your home and provide versatile options like attached outdoor kitchens.
How much does it cost to install a fireplace?
The cost of installing a fireplace depends on the type and model of the fireplace. The type of fuel, condition of your chimney, and home structure affect the fireplace installation cost.
Why is my fireplace smoking?
A smoky fireplace or stove can be the result of multiple things, including:
- Your damper may be closed.
- You may have a flue blockage due to debris, creosote, or animal nesting buildup.
- Your chimney may be too small. If this is the case, we perform chimney extension services.
- If your flue is too small for your fireplace, you can place a 6″ wide aluminum foil strip above the opening to help reduce the smoke. If this doesn’t work, we can install a draft induction fan.
- Your chimney may be too short. If this is the case, we can extend your chimney.
How often should I get my fireplace or stove professionally serviced?
We recommend routine maintenance on your fireplace, chimney, and stoves every year. Regular maintenance helps you avoid costly repairs and dangerous situations. The best time to schedule our routine maintenance services is during the spring.
Why does my fireplace stink?
Creosote deposits are the primary source of fireplace odor. These deposits are formed when oils in the wood don’t completely gurn and travel through the smoke. The smoke cools as it rises, mixing with water and chemicals that turn to creosote. You’ll notice the flaky deposits in your fireplace. We can professionally clean your chimney to eliminate this issue. An animal may be deceased in your chimney in rare cases, causing foul odors.
Why do I need a chimney cap?
Chimney caps are essential for keeping critters and debris out of your chimney. Without a chimney cap, animals and moisture can get into your chimney system to cause significant damage and increase health risks.
Do you provide chimney installation services?
Yes! We’re experts in chimney installation services. Our experienced technicians install inserts, stoves, and wood-burning fireplaces. Since each brand and type of chimney has special characteristics, we only install the brands we sell to ensure optimal service and performance of your chimney.
Why does my basement fireplace smoke when I build a fire in my upstairs fireplace?
If you notice smoke in your basement fireplace while building a fire upstairs, air pressure problems are the most common culprit. The rooms at ground level often try to match the outdoor pressure. We can resolve this problem by installing a sealing damper on one of your chimneys.
What do I do if I have a fire in my chimney?
A chimney fire can quickly spread and threaten the safety of anyone in your home. If you notice flames and smoke coming from your chimney:
- Leave your home, and make sure everyone is out of the home.
- Contact the fire department immediately.
- Do not use your fireplace until we’ve professionally inspected it and approved it for safe use.
Why does my chimney need cleaning?
Chimneys get filled with small flammable particles from burning logs in your fireplace. These particles are carried into the chimney and often build up on the walls. A fire in your chimney often causes the liner to crack, allowing the flames to access your roof and surrounding walls. Chimney cleaning helps prevent debris from causing a fire.
What can I expect when scheduling a chimney cleaning?
Our highly trained technicians will first provide a consultation to assess your cleaning and maintenance needs. When we perform your scheduled chimney cleaning, we’ll cover everything in the room to catch any debris. We’ll thoroughly clean your chimney and inspect it for any damage.
Do you also provide chimney repair services?
Yes! We’re your full-service chimney sweep and repair business. We’ll inspect your chimney for repairs and provide a quote. We put your needs first, so we only recommend needed repairs. From repairing your firebox to full chimney repairs, we do it all.
What is a fireplace insert?
Fireplace inserts are stoves that fit perfectly in existing fireplace openings. Fireplace inserts can use wood, gas, or wood pellets as fuel. You can also convert a wood-burning fireplace into a gas fireplace with a fireplace insert.
Can I install my fireplace myself?
No! Fireplaces are the perfect way to provide warmth and beauty to your home, but they are a severe safety hazard if improperly installed. Certified and licensed professionals should only install a fireplace.
